The days when reaching Cabo involved large amounts of hot, hard overland travel are long gone. Today there are a large number of scheduled flights departing from the U.S. – some travelers may prefer to fly direct from their local airport, while others may find that taking a domestic flight to California and then a further flight on to Cabo San Lucas is the easiest option. Cabo transportation is easily accessible and surprisingly affordable.
Modern roads between San Diego, CA, and Cabo San Lucas allow motorists to simply complete the journey by car. If you’re using your own vehicle, you’ll need a tourist card and vehicle permit (both obtainable at the border), before entering Mexico. You also need to check that you have the right insurance in place – your existing policy may be sufficient, or you may need to take out additional coverage for the trip. If you prefer to hire a vehicle, it’s generally easier to travel to Tijuana (just over the border) first, and then use one of the Mexican hire branches to obtain a suitable car. Generally Cabo transportation by road is a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and friendly accommodation which is typical of this part of Mexico.
