San Jose Cabo or Cabo San Lucas?
Los Cabos, Mexico is comprised of two distinct regions: San Jose and Cabo San Lucas. Both offer an exciting mixture of authentic Mexican culture mixed with modern tourism. San Jose Cabo lies about 20 miles west of Cabo San Lucas. While most people consider “Cabo” a unified whole, San Jose and Cabo San Lucas are fairly different. Cabo San Lucas began as a small fishing village only 25 years ago. It quickly blossomed into one of the top vacation destinations in the world. However, Spanish missionaries founded San Jose in the 1700s. Their origins contribute to their differences today.
San Jose offers high-end restaurants, art galleries, and shopping districts. Cabo San Lucas is a classic beach destination with tours, adventures, and a seemingly never-ending list of things to do. The more cultured traveler might take a trip to San Jose to view some exquisite statues while the adventurous traveler might journey to Cabo San Lucas for an exhilarating ATV ride.
